Painting Over Dated Bathroom Tile

Want to up-date your bathrooms' decor but do not want to fork out the dough to replace the ceramic tiling? Then consider painting! Painting over dated bathroon tile is a low-cost alternative to replacing it and will give you a big bang for your buck.

Heres How:
For the DIY enthusiast you will need to:
  • Clean, rinse and dry the surfaces well and repair any damaged grout or tiles prior to painting.
  • Prime your prepared surface with a high-adhesion primer like Zinsser 123 Acrylic primer or Zinsser B.I.N.
  • Top coat with an epoxy, which is the toughest finish or for a cheaper easier to work with finish try a top of the line 100% acrylic interior semi-gloss paint which can take a pretty good beating. An alkyd paint in a semi-gloss sheen is also a good choose and will dry harder than the acrylic but it will take much longer to fully cure (2-3 weeks). (Note: Use 2 thin coats rather than 1 heavy top coat. Not only will it look better it will also last longer).
For those who prefer to hire a professional seek out a qualified painter in your area or a company that specializes in this type of finish.
