Use Accessories To Balance Your Colour Scheme
What ever your colour scheme there must be balance. To help you with this task it helps to understand that colour has a visual weight. Dark colours appear heavier while pastels appear lighter. When you have an imbalance in the weight of your furniture arrangement (i.e.: a dark leather sofa on one wall and a small sofa table on the wall opposite) you can use accessories to help add visual weight to the lighter side of the room. This may be accomplished by adding a piece of art above the table and adding accessories to the table top. Other options might include adding a stool or accent chair, a larger plant, a large vase filled with branches etc. By selecting darker coloured accessories you can reduce the number and size of items in your display, lighter coloured objects will need to be larger in actual size to compensate for their lighter visual weight.
Colour should also be fairly evenly distributed around a room. A bold red feature wall can be tied into the main colour scheme by adding equally bold red throw pillows and selecting art work with some of this colour also in it.
